General information

What is adult education?

In a broader sense, adult education includes individuals participating in public education (adult learning*) or higher education after completing compulsory schooling. However, according to the definition in Act LXXVII of 2013 (Adult Education Act), adult education encompasses all organized, goal-oriented competence-building and competence-development activities, training, or other adult education services carried out in an organized manner, where participants do not have a student or learner legal relationship with the training institution.
*Adult learning refers to school-based education conducted under a student legal relationship, while adult education refers to training conducted outside the school system under an adult education legal relationship.

Who can participate in adult education?

Anyone who has fulfilled their compulsory schooling requirements can participate in adult education. Additionally, individuals still subject to compulsory schooling can join adult education alongside fulfilling their schooling obligations.
The University of Pannonia offers its adult education courses to both internal and external employees, students of its own and other higher education institutions, companies, and private individuals.

Who or what organizations can conduct adult education?

Adult education can be conducted by classic market participants (adult education providers) as well as vocational institutions, public education institutions, and higher education institutions.

What qualifies as adult education, and what does not?

The Adult Education Act applies to organized, goal-oriented competence-building and competence-development education and training. Adult education includes traditional professional training, language training, other trainings such as business or communication courses, retraining, further training, and corporate training. However, activities such as conferences, workshops, coaching, consultations, clubs, and onboarding, as well as fire and occupational safety training, are not classified as adult education under the Act.

How can adult education activities be conducted?

Adult education can be carried out either by notification or with authorization. Both notification and authorization processes must be initiated with the Administrative Body for Adult Education (via the Adult Education Data Service System - FAR), through which the provider receives either a "notified" or "authorized" registration number.
The University of Pannonia’s registration numbers are: B/2020/000711 and E/2020/000101.

Trainings conducted under authorization include:

  • Professional training outside vocational institutions: training for specific professional qualifications and preparatory training for professional certifications.

  • Education or training funded partially or entirely from the state budget or European Union sources.

Trainings conducted under notification include:

All other types of education, language and developmental training, and workshops.

What types of training are offered by the University of Pannonia?

The University of Pannonia’s adult education offerings are constantly updated and flexibly tailored to market needs. These include professional training, training based on legal regulations (e.g., teacher further education, certified public accountant training), business training (e.g., ESG specialist), and technical training (e.g., CCNA, CCNP). The current offerings can be followed on the website of the Institute of Adult Education and the websites of the faculties and organizational units.

How can one apply for training?

Applications can be submitted by filling out the form under the "Training – Apply" menu on the Institute of Adult Education’s website. The dropdown menu lists the available courses. Training sessions start when there is a sufficient number of applicants. Questions about specific training sessions can also be submitted by selecting the "Inquire" option.

What documents can be obtained upon completing a training?

Upon successfully completing an adult education course, participants receive a certificate. For professional training, this certificate allows participants to register for certification exams at independent examination centres.
